15 June Land's End Ahoy

We left Milford Haven at 12.40pm which was grey and raining, passed all the platforms for gas drilling.  Not pretty but essential for the local economy.
Once out at sea, up went the sails and we literally got a smash on as the wind was kind to us and we were smoking along at an average of 12 kts but sometimes hitting a scary 16kts which for me meant some serious whooping (in fear!)
However, Craig, Sandra & John relished the action and were on hand to see the frequent dolphin visitors trying to keep up with the boat.

The weather brightened up too and everything was great for the journey across the Bristol Channel. Sorry that the map is lopsided but technology is not always my friend. ..

We arrived at Land's End at midnight with the moon shining it's way for us.

A more sedate manner of sailing followed as we went past the headland and it was bed time for me (as usual, leaving the chaps to it) at 2.30am.

We arrived at the very pretty River Yealm at Newton Ferrers. Moored up to a mooring buoy and headed off to The Dolphin Inn for a spot of lunch.

  1. Thank for all of your posts as you complete your shake-down cruise of "Bitter Sharp". I've been getting caught up over the last couple days with much interest, as I have been considering approaching Marsaudon for the last few months about a TS42 build. Thank you for this recent share with its interior photos. They were great to see. In a future post could you condider writing about the sailing characteristics of the TS42. Anything about sail combos at different apparent wind angles/speeds, boat speeds achieved, motion of the boat, how wet the sailing is at speed, feeling in the helm, etc. I would be very appreciative of that type of sailing info. Cheers guys! Stay safe out there & enjoy.

  2. Hi guys. Thanks for a great few days hanging with you and allowing us to share the Bitter Sharp experience. Roaring along at 12kts in the "moderate seas" was a great introduction to real sailing in your awesome new machine. Safe travels back to L'orient and we'll see you soon. Sandra & Craig
